DESCRIPTION: A small orthopteran specimen with a brown head and thorax and with a darker abdomen. The legs are paler and the wings are absent. Females have an obvious ovipositor (See fig 1). Unmistakeable due to its strict habitat requirements. BEHAVIOUR: Nocturnal creatures that are true scavengers. They can be found hiding in the deep recesses of shingle/pebbles and also can be lured forth with appropriate titbits. DISTRIBUTION: Very rare and only found in a few places in southern Britain.HABITAT: Strictly under pebbles/shingle beaches. PERIOD: All year round.
